Shaheed Beheshti School of Pharmacy offers PhD degrees in 4 main fields of pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, pharmacology and toxicology  and pharmacognosy. We are also planning to establish 3 new postgraduate courses in pharmacoeconomy and pharmaceutical policy, clinical pharmacy and biotechnology in the next academic year starting from September 2006.

 Applicants for entry to a PhD course should pass a General Admission Exam conducted by the Ministry of Health and Medical Education of Iran. The eligible students should seek for a scholarship from either a public sector (universities, governmental bodies) or a private sector (pharmaceutical industries) to cover the course fees and expenses. PhD and postgraduate courses consists of both taught courses and a research program. After finishing the course work, which is usually within 3 semesters, the students should participate in a comprehensive board examination, before starting their research thesis.

 The research area in our school ranges across different fields of designing and synthesis of new drug derivatives, pharmaceutical analysis, drug action, drug delivery, pharmacokinetics, analytical toxicology, natural products, traditional and herbal medicine, biotechnology, clinical trials and pharmacoeconomy. At the final stage of the PhD course, students are sposered by the university or the Ministry of Health and Medical Education to do a six-month complementary research course abroad in well-known universities.

The research programs of the school are usually funded by different agencies such as the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, Research Deputy of the university, pharmaceutical research centers, Traditional Medicine and Materia Medica Research Center, and by pharmaceutical companies.
